3D Diagnostics- Scan
Dr. Michael Harris has been placing implants and serving patients with the highest level using the Galileos® 3D Dental Conebeam by Sirona. He is one of a few of doctors in the area with this technology. What is this Wonderful diagnostic tool that gives us complete accurate treatment?
Galileos 3D Imaging In the News
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) allows 3-D visualization of the entire lower half of the human jaw. Galileos technology gives us the advantage of the diagnostic X-ray imaging capabilities in the fields of:
The scan is a low-dose, 14 second 3D scan obtains a large amount of x-ray information with perfect image quality which can also be saved on a disc. All of this is accomplished with much less radiation exposure produced by medical CT scans, less than a full mouth of conventional X-ray films!
Structure of both hard and soft tissues associated with sinus related issues can be more completely seen and delineated. For pin point location of impacted teeth near major nerves, visualization of oral pathology, facial trauma and understanding of developmental deformities, 3D imaging has no match in the 2D world.
3D Scan Shows Implant Planning
The greatest excitement to the Sirona’s Galileos 3D imaging here at our office is that it is the only Cone Beam system that seamlessly integrates with CEREC CAD/CAM technology allowing for efficient, precision dental implant planning, surgical placement for implant supported single and multiple tooth replacements. We can give you a diagnosis on whether you’d be a good candidate for many procedures at the time the Scan is checked by Dr Harris and Dr Larashi.
Benefits of the Galileos 3D advantages include:
On December 7, 2016 Dr Harris had spoken in front of 25 other doctors regarding Implant placement technology procedures. We are one of a handful of offices in the Tri-county area that can fabricate surgical guides (a clear device that makes implant placement precise to the desired location and with perfect alignment) in office and carry out Implant procedures from step one to completion. Dr Harris has been placing Implants for over a decade and restoring them since the late 90's. Once the implant process is complete we are able to fabricate and complete your implant in one office visit. Dr Harris and the team are here to serve you at the highest level with the best technology available in dentistry.
What is an Dental Implant?
Dental implants are replacement tooth roots that provide a strong and stable foundation for natural-looking artificial teeth. Because dental implants are permanently secured to the jawbone, they look, feel and function just like real teeth.

Most often people think pain and a dental problem go hand and hand. Pain is not the only indication of something going on. Patients frequently ask me ‘why am I having this filling/crown/etc done when I am not feeling anything?’ I can speak from experience!
Alongside this article I have posted a digital X-ray of tooth number #32, #31, and #30- known as the lower right molars. The last tooth to the left of the image is my wisdom tooth (#32), which is positioned in such a way referred to as ‘mesially impacted’. In other words, there is limited space in the jaw for this tooth. It is not functional in my bite and because of its angle, it’s a food trap! If you look closely at the image you will notice the large dark area eating into the second molar- the tooth in front of the wisdom tooth. With the angle of the wisdom tooth it can make it almost impossible to keep the area clean opposed to the other areas of the mouth.
I had my lower wisdom teeth extracted over the summer. Now, you would think with this large area of decay (commonly stated as a cavity) that I would’ve had a tooth ache or at least some sensitivity to temperature or sweets?! Surprisingly- I did not! This area of decay had appeared on the X-ray so large that during removal of the decay it was a strong possibility of exposing the nerve which would’ve led to- you guessed it, a root canal. Fortunately that wasn’t the case. This just goes to show that decay can be extensive without any of the assumed symptoms.
We are here to educate you! The more you understand about your dental care the more we can be on the same page with keeping your mouth healthy and remember- just because you don’t ‘feel’ anything, doesn’t indicate there isn’t something going on. Next time you’re faced with the possibility of postponing treatment, you may want to think twice.
